OTTO creates music that’s both minimalistic and electrifying. All three musicians play the same instrument – the tapan, a powerful Balkan drum with only two strikingly different skin sounds – along with resonant metal percussion like gongs and bronze plates. With this intentionally limited sonic palette, they build a raw, pulsing music that relies on timing, precision and the intricate weaving of their three voices. Their sets move between tightly written and wide-open sections, shifting from explosive drive to delicate interplay.
