Phonem Festival

PHONEM (formerly Zwei Tage Zeit) is Zurich’s international festival for improvised and cross-disciplinary music. It brings together artists from diverse regions and scenes, both within Switzerland and beyond, and explores improvisation across a wide range of contexts: from music and dance to film, spatial installations and other forms of contemporary practices. PHONEM approaches improvisation as an open field and celebrates its richness, its methods and its aesthetic possibilities.

With a new curatorial team and a renewed artistic direction, the 11th edition marks an important new chapter. Nineteen artists push the boundaries of improvisational practices, connecting sound with sculpture, light, and language. Alongside concerts and performances, the festival offers lectures, workshops and reflective formats that open new perspectives and invite a broad, diverse audience to experience improvised music from multiple angles.

… and reflective formats designed to deepen the understanding of improvised music practices and to engage with new and diverse audiences.

Association Zwei Tage Zeit

The PHONEM Festival is organized by the non-profit association Zwei Tage Zeit. The association promotes improvised, experimental and interdisciplinary musical practices across a variety of formats and contexts. It actively engages new audiences, works with contemporary technologies and contributes to making this artistic practice accessible to a broad public.
